Giovanni Gioseffo dal Sole was an Italian painter and engraver of the Baroque period. He first apprenticed with Domenico Maria Canuti in Bologna and then moved to the Roman workshop of the painter Lorenzo Pasinelli in 1672. His first commissions were frescoes in churches in Bologna and Imola, which earned him fame as a painter. In the following years, dal Sole worked for clients in various Italian cities and specialised in historical-mythological painting. Around 1700, he received commissions from the courts of Vienna and Munich. Dal Sole ran a workshop with many pupils and employees.
