Cookie statement

1 | General information

This Cookie statement applies to all users (“you” or the “User”) of the website provided at the address https://collections.mnaha.lu (the “Site”) by the Musée national d’archéologie, d’histoire et d’art (the “MNAHA” or “we”), a Luxembourg cultural institute operating under the control of the Minister of Culture, located at Place du Marché-aux-Poissons, 2345 Luxembourg.

Below, you will find a straightforward explanation of how and why we use cookies on our Site.

2 | What are cookies and what are they for?

Cookies are small text files which are placed by the websites that you visit onto the hard drive of your device (PC, laptop computer or smartphone, for example) and stored there and/or read by your browser. Almost all websites use cookies to function properly and to optimise their features and usability.

There are several types of cookies. Some cookies are essential for a website and its features to function properly. Others, known as performance cookies, allow the site to remember users’ preferences (such as their language settings) and provide them with an improved, personalised experience. Audience measurement cookies collect data concerning users’ behaviour on the Site, with the ultimate aim of improving the site. Targeted advertising cookies are used to display advertisements which are relevant to the user based on their interests.

A distinction can also be made between cookies which are internal to the site visited and cookies which are external, e.g. social network cookies generated by the Share buttons for these networks.

3 | Our cookies

We use session cookies to enable our Site and its features to function properly. The Site places these cookies in a dedicated directory on the User’s computer. The cookies contain, in particular, the name of the server which created them, a unique numerical identifier, and an expiration date.

Session cookies are deleted by the User’s computer when the browsing session ends.

We also use audience measurement cookies. These cookies are placed by Matomo, a third-party product hosted on our own servers. These cookies allow us to anonymously count the number of visitors and collect information on how our Site is used (most frequently viewed pages, duration of visits, etc.).

In general, the cookies used by our Site allow us to improve your user experience and, ultimately, the content of the Site, to ensure that you have better access to more relevant information.

These cookies can be placed without your prior consent. However, you can configure your browser to block them. This may affect your use of the Site.

We do not use advertising cookies.

4 | How can cookies be deactivated?

When you visit the Site for the first time, we will inform you that cookies are placed by our Site and will give you access to this Cookie statement. You can object to the Site’s use of cookies by contacting us at any time using the contact information given below.

You can also deactivate cookies at any time by changing your browser settings. Should you wish to delete the cookies stored on your device and configure your browser to block cookies, you can do this via your browser settings.

In most cases, the browser options relating to cookies can be found in the Options, Tools or Preferences menus of the browser which you are using to access the Site.

However, different browsers may use different options for deactivating cookies.

Please note that, if you change your browser settings to prevent cookies from being stored on your device, you will still be able to browse the Site. However, this may restrict or prevent your use of some features of the Site. We therefore recommend that the User configure their browser to accept cookies from the Site.

5 | What are your rights?

In addition to the rights described in this Statement, you have the rights described in the Site’s Privacy Policy.

If you have any other questions relating to the MNAHA’s use of cookies, please contact our Data Protection Officer by email (dpo@mnaha.etat.lu) or post:
