Antonio Zona studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. He was a main representative of Venetian painting between classicism and naturalism. Zona was mainly active as a portrait painter, but also devoted himself to religious themes, genre scenes and histories. Today, his works are almost exclusively to be seen in museums in northern Italy.
