Orazio Riminaldi was an Italian painter who was mainly active in Pisa and Rome. His first known work, Samson victorious over the Philistines , is still to be seen in the apse of Pisa Cathedral. The painting was created in Rome, where Riminaldi worked in the workshop of Orazio Gentileschi. It was there that he developed his Caravaggist style, which also shows characteristics of the early Baroque. During his stay in Rome (1620-1627), Riminaldi often received commissions from his home town Pisa. The finished paintings were then transported from Rome to Pisa. During his time in Rome, Riminaldi was a member of the Accademia di San Luca. In 1627, Riminaldi returned to Pisa and was commissioned to paint the dome of the cathedral. He was still able to finish some religious paintings for churches in Pisa, but Riminaldi died before completing the frescoes in the cathedral.
