Luigi Amistani was born in the Italian province of Brescia and trained in Verona. Little is known about his life. The only source in which works by him are mentioned is Giovanni Battista Carboni's collection of biographies of artists active in Brescia. According to Carboni, Amistani painted both large-scale full-figure portraits and miniatures. In addition, Amistani painted an altarpiece for a church near Brescia.
