Gaetano Bianchi was a Florentine painter and restorer. He trained as a paper conservator and acquired a profound knowledge of old writing and painting techniques as well as paper production. Few paintings by him have survived. However, he established a reputation as a restorer and was involved in numerous major restoration projects of the 19th century. Among other monuments, he worked on frescoes in Santa Maria Novella, Santa Croce and the Bargello and on frescoes by Piero della Francesca in Arezzo.
