Autumn
1945H x L : 76.3 x 67.4 cm
The painter Jean Schaack rings in autumn for us with bold contrasting colours and quick brushstrokes. His landscape shows warm, glowing treetops above a dark pond, with the colours and elements slightly blending into one another. Stylistically, Schaack's works oscillate between Impressionism, Expressionism and Naturalism.
As part of the (comparatively late) Luxembourg Secession, he attempted at times to break away from more traditional painting styles without ever completely detaching himself from figuration or limiting himself to one style in the long term.
His ‘Autumn’ is one of the many landscapes for which he is known, alongside his portraits.
