W. C. Fields (1880-1946) was an American comedian, actor and master juggler. His juggling made him a famous vaudeville performer. By 1928, he was the highest paid performer on Broadway. From 1932, he also appeared in films. Alongside Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, W.C. Fields is regarded as one of the most influential comedic performers. Edward Steichen photographed W. C. Fields for Vanity Fair in 1925.
