Susan Vanderpoel Hun (1889-1967), married businessman Stephen Carlton Clark (1882- 1960) in 1909. Clark was an heir of the Singer Sewing Machine Company, a newspaper publisher, and an art collector. In his function as chairman of the board at the Museum of Modern Art, Clark co-created the new position of Director of the Department of Photography and made Edward Steichen the first person to hold the position.
