Mrs. Eugene Meyer (Agnes Ernst Meyer)

Print: after 1953 - before 1971H x L : 35.3 x 27.8 cm

We do not know when and where this portrait of Agnes Ernst Meyer was taken. It is less staged than her wedding portraits (1985-030/070+071) and appears to be almost a snapshot. Agnes Meyer often visited Steichen and his wife at their house in Voulangis between 1910 and 1914. First with her husband, but also in later years, when she used to leave her husband and children in New York while she gallivanted around Europe. The photograph might have been taken during one of those visits.
