Daniele Crespi was a painter and draughtsman active in Milan. His works reflect the transition from Mannerism to the early Baroque style. One of his first commissions was the frescoing of the dome in the church of San Vittore al Corpo. He carried out the decoration together with another painter. Crespi painted mainly religious art, in particular altarpieces and frescoes in churches in Milan, Piacenza and Pavia, but also paintings, including portraits, for private clients. Unlike most painters from Lombardy, Crespi made preparatory sketches for his paintings. In 1630, Daniele Crespi died of the plague, probably at the age of only 33.
