- Description:
- Composed of a strip of leather long enough to surround the head, decorated along its entire length with kauri shells; a small pendant attached to one of the sides consists of five small pieces of leather bearing small white glass beads. The whole is adorned with a tuft of hairs, or rather yellowish bristles still attached to the skin. - Descriptive inventory by Nicolas Van Werveke of the Spring ethnographic collection. N.B.: this is a faithful transcription of Van Werveke's inventory, the terms used in 1898 have not been modified, even those whose use is considered critical today.
