- Description:
- Official torch of the XIV Summer Olympic Games, held in London in 1948. One of 42 aluminium Olympic torches planned for the 38 stages of +/- 3km in Luxembourg (the route through Luxembourg had a total of ca. 108 km covered in one night between 00:20 and 8 a.m. on 27 July 1948: Frisange-Esch-Luxembourg/Ville-Ettelbrück-Wiltz-Doncols route). The Luxembourg torchbearers were members of amateur sports clubs in the towns they passed through. The total distance covered by the Olympic flame in 1948 was 3365 km between Olympia (Greece) and London. The base on which the torch stands is not original.
