BLOCKS — ARMAMENT OF THE ROMAN
SOLDIERS
Frieze with sea-monsters. Fragments of cornices
and of stone blocks decorated with grapes and
with geometrical figures, which belonged to fu-
neral monuments situated in the vicinity of the
3oman villa ”op Mies” in Mersch (1% to 4 cen-
turies A.D.). Funeral inscription in honour of the of-
ficer and high priest of Lenus Mars who lived there
at the time of the Emperor Hadrian.
The armament of the Roman soldiers: coat of mail,
ombilic, sword, dagger, projectiles, etc.
The worship of the Capitoline Triad (bronze
sculptures, votive inscriptions, maquette) in the
*emple district of the vicus of Ricciacus-Dalheim.
DOTTERY
A selection of pottery in "terra sigillata” technique
and of black-gloss beakers with dells. Potters’
stamps and graffiti on "terra sigillata”. A selection
of pottery called ”terra Belgica” (red and grey
yare), a local imitation of the ”terra siagillata”

technique. Objects and pottery found in several
graves of noble Trevirans in Goeblange/Nospelt
(2"d half of the 1°t century B.C.): situlas. wine oitch-
ars, amphoras, jugs, etc.
Bronze statuettes representing gods, goddesses,
animals. etc.

FUNERAL MONUMENTS - FINDS FROM THE
MEROVINGIAN PERIOD
Fragments of carved stoneblocks from funeral
monuments found at Luxembourg-Fetschenhof.
Merovingian sarcophagi from Luxembourg and
their contents: adornments, glasses, pottery, and
iron weapons. Reconstruction of a Frankish chief-
tain’s grave with its furnishings.
CARVED STONEBLOCKS AND SCULPTURES
Tombstone with a lead urn from Wintrange.
Stoneblock with the representation of a genius
with a horn of plenty. Base with four deities (Her-
cules, Apollo, Juno; the fourth god has disap-
peared as a result of the re-use of the stone during
the Middle Ages). Votive altar of the slave Sabinus
'n honour of the genius of the Vosugones.
Mural case: Head of a bearded man from a monu-
nent located on the Titelberg (2"° century A.D.).
THE TITELBERG
The Titelberg is a promontory situated in the ut-
most South West of Luxembourg and represents,
along with the vicus of Dalheim, one of the most
important archaeological sites of the Grand-
Duchy. Occupied since prehistoric times, the Titel-
berg grew into an important Celtic oppidum. Dur-
‘ng the first centuries A.D., a Gallo-Roman vicus
was located on the same site.
In the cases we find a selection of flint tools, Celtic
and Roman <coins, pottery, bronze objects,
broaches, tools and other objects of daily life.
ARCHITECTURE
Model of the Roman villa of Echternach (1* build-
ing period about 60/70 A.D.) and of the thermae
from the former vicus of Mamer. Reconstruction of
a hypocaust and fragments from mosaic pave-
ments. Different pieces from the inner decoration
and other finds from the villa of Echternach.
On the wall, we see a reconstruction of a stratig-
‚aphy with the superposition of the archaeological
strata (Titelberg). Potter’s wheel and tools from the
Titelbera.
WORSHIP OF THE DEAD AND FUNERAL
MONUMENTS — EARLY CHRISTIANITY
Reconstruction of different grave types (incinera-
tion and burial). Sarcophagi, cinerary urn with an
inscription, stoneblock fragments from various
funeral monuments (Grevenmacherberg, Re-
merschen. Lellia-Wassaerhillia. etc.)
