Llewellyn Lloyd was a British-Italian painter and art writer. His uncle, with whom he grew up, did not allow him to attend art school and so Lloyd initially trained as a businessman. From 1894 to 1899, he studied in the workshop of the painter Guglielmo Micheli in Livorno and made friends with other painters. Lloyd presented one of his landscape paintings for the first time in an exhibition in 1897. Around 1900, he settled in Florence and attended drawing classes and a nude class. In his paintings, the styles of the Macchiaioli and Divisionism intermingle. In addition to landscapes, Lloyd painted interiors, portraits and city views. Between 1905 and 1930, he exhibited at all the Venice Biennales. From 1910, Lloyd increasingly devoted himself to printmaking and produced lithographs and etchings. In the early 1930s, he was commissioned to design several mosaics for public buildings in Hong Kong. Lloyd also wrote a book titled "La pittura dell’Ottocento in Italia" (19th Century Painting in Italy), which was published in 1929.
