Expanding the museum’s collection of Luxembourgish design and applied arts, this 3D printed vase constitutes one of the most recent additions. The young entrepreneur, designer, and founder of the Luxembourg start-up Äerd Lab, Angelika Bocian-Jaworska explores alternative techniques for creating ceramic objects, which led to her win of the 3rd Circular by Design Challenge 2023 [Multifunctional Urban Furniture].

The vase combined digital reproduction and the natural world: its organic shape, inspired by a conch shell, displays simultaneously the characteristic ridges of three-dimensional prints.

Nature does not only hold an important role in Bocian-Jaworska’s aesthetic approach towards design but also philosophically: she collaborated on the Dubai World Expo and promoted the Circular Economy approach, i.e., the sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing, and recycling of material. Her work is part of a contemporary approach to design that tends towards a heightened awareness of environmental issues through the implementation of innovative techniques. The circular design and the use of 3D printers are therefore a significant development in contemporary design and are testimony to the continuous progress in Luxembourg design.
