Description:
The iron is stuck into the wood and the tip is leaf-shaped. The wood ends at the bottom with a cone. These spears are placed on trees, on elephant paths, and arranged so as to be fired when an animal touches the rope or belt which from the ground is connected to the bow. - Descriptive inventory by Nicolas Van Werveke of the Spring ethnographic collection. N.B.: this is a faithful transcription of Van Werveke's inventory, the terms used in 1898 have not been modified, even those whose use is considered critical today.
