The exhibition is grouped in two sections. The first
is called “Formation of an Empire” and presents a
chronological overview, from the first centralized states
under the dynasties of the Xia, the Shang and the Zhou
up to the great Empire of the Han, contemporary and
in many terms comparable to the Roman Empire.
The second part, “Craftsmanship and Skills”, presents
archaeological finds of outstanding quality in jade,
gold, silver, bronze and ceramic, from splendid bronze
vessels of the Shang dynasty to impressive porcelain
ware of the Song period produced only for the use of
the imperial court.
MNHA would like to express its deep gratitude to
all partner institutions in Henan for their invaluable
expertise and never-failing support. Special thanks go
to Henan Museum for coordinating this fascinating
project and for lending so many magnificent objects.
