in Paris, leads the debate. Students discuss how it
feels having one or more languages at home, different
languages for school and friends, or home and the
public space; how it feels to speak all day in a language
that is not their mother tongue or to have a mother
tongue, which is not the one they express themselves
best or most adequately in.
These first hand experiences enable students to discuss
the importance of the Luxembourgish language, of
multilinguism and of the ability to translate in the
construction of the country’s identity. No subjects
are dodged, and towards the end we find ourselves
listening to the students’ musings on the Paris attacks
or the refugee crisis. Opinions are varied and always
make for lively and interesting discussions, in which
we witness how deeper thought and debate question
ready-made or picked-up opinions.
