The age of Maria Theresa - Masterpieces of the Baroque
The age of Maria Theresa - Masterpieces of the Baroque
17.11.2006 - 11.02.2007
Despite numerous wars, notably the Wars of the Austrian Succession and the Seven Years' War, the reign of Empress Maria Theresa from 1740 to 1780 saw a veritable flowering of art and culture throughout the vast territories of the Habsburg Monarchy. Under Maria Theresa, the Duchy of Luxembourg experienced an enormous economic and cultural boom. Loans from the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere in Vienna, one of the most important collections of Austrian paintings and sculptures, are complemented by selected drawings and engravings from the Copperplate engraving cabinet of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, which is particularly rich in 18th-century Austrian works. The MNHA is also represented in this important exhibition, organised with the support of the Austrian Embassy in Luxembourg.
