The Greeks and the sea - Fisch plates from the Florence Gottet collection

16.02.2008 - 08.06.2008

The exhibition, conceived in collaboration with the Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte in Dresden, brings together fish plates from the Florence Gottet collection. The display is enriched by naturalised fish and fossils from the Naturkundemuseum in Berlin. Made in Attica, southern Italy and Sicily in the 4th century BC, these fish plates are characterised by their distinctive shape and decoration. The exhibition looks at the Greeks' relationship with the sea (including navigation, fishing and colonisation), as well as the development of Greek ceramics and their marketing.
