Foni Tissen (1909-1975)

06.10.2009 - 10.01.2010

In 2009, the 100th birthday of the Luxembourgish artist Foni Tissen (1909-1975) was celebrated. The Musée national d'histoire et d'art joined in the celebrations by organising a major exhibition on this amazing artist with surrealist tendencies, who left his mark on artistic life in Luxembourg in the middle of the 20th century. The exhibition began with a presentation of the artist's life through his self-portraits, his artistic training and his family members. The artist's oeuvre as a whole reflects his personal life, which was characterised by profound events. Analysing the work of Foni Tissen is an invitation to come to terms with the person of an exceptional Luxembourgish artist. His work and his search for ‘the truth, which is beauty and sincerity’, according to the artist himself, can be seen as a way of celebrating.

The exhibition was organised in collaboration with the association ‘Foni Tissen 100 Joer’.
