Unsuspected treasures - Antique goldsmiths in Luxembourg
Unsuspected treasures - Antique goldsmiths in Luxembourg
01.10.2004 - 16.01.2005
For the first time, the exhibition attempts to give a general overview of the art of goldsmithing in Luxembourg. It shows that the country's goldsmiths were able to produce high-quality pieces from the 17th to the beginning of the 19th century. Some exceptional works by foreign goldsmiths kept in Luxembourg, including a 13th century cross reliquary, are also on display. The exhibition mainly presents religious objects from ecclesiastical workshops, but also silverware from public and private collections. On the occasion of this exhibition, Eva Toepfer has published a book entitled 'Alte Goldschmiedekunst in Luxemburg', which can serve as a reference work for experts and enthusiasts alike.
