A romantic journey - Masterpieces from the Rademakers collection

04.04.2014 - 14.09.2014

Romanticism was a 19th century European movement that embraced not only the visual arts, literature and music but also science and philosophy. A reaction to the Industrial Revolution as well as a revolt against the political and social norms of the Enlightenment, it opposed the supremacy of reason.

The Rademakers Collection is a private collection of over a hundred 19th century romantic paintings by Dutch and Belgian Masters. Summer and winter landscapes, marine paintings, cityscapes, still lifes, nocturnes, portraits and genre paintings take the visitor on a romantic journey.
