As an expression of their admiration and gratitude 
the City of Clervaux has the proud privilege to 
confen the meedom of the City of Qenvaux upon 
Ar. Edward Steichen 
who created in a passionate spirit of devoted love 
and Faith in man the world's greatest photographic 
exhibition - The Family of Men - and whose photo- 
graphic work provided an example for and 
inpfluenceó photognaphens thnoughout €he conlo. 
in vintue of these outstanding performances and 
merits Mr. Steichen is hereby accorded the 
honour of the Freedom of the City og Clenvaux.

L'exposition The Family of Man a été offerte à l'État 
luxembourgeois par le Gouvernement des États-Unis, en 
raison du fait qu'Edward Steichen est d'origine luxembour- 
geoise. Elle fut d'abord présentée au Musée de l'État (juillet- 
août 1965), puis au Théâtre Municipal d'Esch (juin-juillet 
1967), enfin au Lycée classique d’Echternach (juillet-août 
1974). En 1966, lors d'une visite qu'il fit au Luxembourg, 
Edward Steichen visita le cháteau de Clervaux oü il se 
felicita que le Gouvernement luxembourgeois ait envisage 
d’exposer The Family of Man de facon definitive. A cette 
occasion, il fut nommé citoyen d'honneur de la ville de 
Clervaux.
